Penny's Babies
June 19, 2002: Our Hampshire sow has delivered 13 healthy babies!
This is Penny's first birth, and she handled it like a pro. This picture was taken within 8 hours of birth.
The babies were born sometime after midnight, and we missed the delivery.
But when we went out for our morning check, there were all the little black and white piglets. They really are cute!
Here are the little ones after three days.
Its hard to imagine that these teeny piglets may someday reach 400 pounds.
Penny seems to know what to do. Anytime she rolls to the side, the little piglets come to get a drink. It is said that once a piglet chooses a teat, they continue to use the same one until weaned.
